"The Focal Point of the Austin IT Community"

June 4th, 1998 - Announcements

------

AITP is the local chapter of the national professional association of CIOs, IS managers, senior staff, academics, vendors, and consultants. We hold monthly dinner meetings with well known and high profile IT related speakers.

The Austin AITP chapter has been serving computer related professionals in Central Texas for many years. We also sponsor student AITP chapters at Southwest Texas State University and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. We were formally known as DPMA.

Our monthly announcement is now being sent by email to interested Austin IT professionals on a city wide basis. Instructions for unsubscribing to this announcement are at the end of this document. We hope this communication will aid you in planning for the events in which you may have an interest. Our email address additions come from subscribe requests and professional referrals only.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Thanks goes to Matt Reedy, Founder, IntelliSolve, who gave us an outstanding overview of Data Warehousing last month. Once again about 50 people were in attendance at the meeting.

Also, my thanks to all of you who responded to my call for board members. We now have four new participants on the board! This gives us the ability to cover more areas of responsibility as the chapter continues its growth. Are you interested in getting involved? Let us know and we will find you a spot!

We have two excellent meetings planned for the next two months.

Next week, Robert Scott, VP of Network & Technology Systems at Logix Communications will discuss "Telecommunications Convergence". Robert is a well known expert in this area, and he will cover what this means for end users, the technology landscape, companies, IT/IS personnel, and the marketplace.

The following month we have a special surprise. Bob McDowell, VP of Enterprise Relationships at Microsoft will come in from Redmond to speak to the chapter. We are flattered that Bob would come to Austin to speak with our AITP chapter since he usually keynotes at large conventions of 2,000 or more attendees. This says quite a bit about the importance Microsoft places on the members of the Austin technology community.

Please mark your calendar now for July 14th for Bob's presentation: "Microsoft and the Changing Enterprise". Early reservations are recommended for this meeting. I have personally heard Bob speak before and he is truly outstanding! This will be after the Windows 98 release, so Microsoft will be a big news story at that time.

Our goal is to be the leading IT voice in the city. Most of the key IT vendors in the city are supporting AITP's efforts. Many high profile CIOs, directors, managers, and senior staff members from Austin companies and state agencies have recently joined the organization. I would like to invite you to become involved as well. Please feel welcome to attend our meeting as a visitor anytime.

Also, please pass this announcement on to others who may have an interest.

See you next Tuesday!

Best Regards,

Russ Finney Director of Information Systems
Tokyo Electron America, Inc.
